Currently, the children who are attending our center are children of essential workers. We understand how you may feel when you leave your children in our care. Therefore, I would like to reiterate that we are taking all the necessary measures and precautions to minimize the risk of contagion. Keeping our staff trained and updated on each and every one of the issues related to COVID-19. Our educational staff, just like you as parents, are essential workers who are leaving their family at home. Therefore, it is my objective to mention some tips, from official sources, to make our center and its families as safe as possible.
On April 17, the governor of the state of Texas issued an executive order, in which he said that Texas will gradually reopen the economy. The reopening of Texas will bring with it greater exposure and risk of contagion. Reason why it is my criterion to reinforce some already known recommendations:
Follow Hidalgo County's order to remain in our homes.
For those of us who are considered essential workers, we must practice extreme precautions in our workplace, following established protocols. However, what I would like to emphasize is:
It is extremely important to only move from home to work and from work to home.
Wearing a "face mask" at all times, the only exceptions are when they are at home or in their vehicle.
Maintain social distance during your workday.
Wash your hands, CONTINUOUSLY for 20 seconds, trying to cover the entire surface of them with soap.
Monitor COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath)
Make sure that all the members of our house follow these recommendations.
Children 2 years and older should wear a cloth face covering.
Even though Hidalgo County made the use of mouth masks mandatory for children over 3 years old. The CDC (Center for Disease Prevention and Control) mentions the importance that children 2 years of age and older should wear a face cloth covering their nose and mouth when in a community setting.
This is an additional public health measure people should take to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in addition to (not instead of) social distancing, frequent hand cleaning and othereveryday preventive actions.
A cloth face covering is not intended to protect the wearer, but may prevent the spread of virus from the wearer to others.
This would be especially important in the event that someone is infected but does not have symptoms.
Medical masks and N-95 respirators are still reserved for healthcare workers and other first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.
Remember that according to the latest research, those without serious illnesses could contract the virus and be asymptomatic, however, they could transmit the infection to other people, raising cases to alarming levels.
